| SPEAKER PELOSI’S NATIONAL ENERGY TAX WOULD COST AMERICAN JOBS, BOOST GLOBAL COMPETITORS INSTEAD WITH UNEMPLOYMENT TOPPING NINE PERCENT, NEW STUDY NOTES DEMOCRATS’ NATIONAL ENERGY TAX WILL COST 2.5 MILLION JOBS | ||
| June 17, 2009 | House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) | Permalink Americans have watched with growing outrage in recent years as misguided government policies have pushed American jobs overseas to global competitors like China and India, and with unemployment now topping nine percent, workers are looking to their leaders in Washington for solutions to help stop the job loss. They are asking: where are the jobs? Unfortunately, Democratic legislation that could reach the House floor as soon as next week will force families, small businesses, or anyone who has the audacity to flip on a light switch to pay a new national energy tax. What does that mean for American workers? In short, if the Democrats in charge of Washington succeed in enacting Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax, things are about to get much, much worse. Why? Because, as the Washington Post reported recently, competitors like China won’t adopt a national energy tax of their own, leaving the door wide open for even more jobs to move from American shores to theirs:
How much of an impact would this imbalance between the United States and our competitors like China and India have on American workers? Take a look at what the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) predicts in a recently-released study, which notes that Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax will:
Losing 2.5 million jobs on top of the job of nine percent unemployment is an untenable proposition for American workers and consumers, according to NBCC President and CEO Harry Alford:
House Republicans believe American workers deserve better, and that’s why they have introduced the American Energy Act to clean up the environment, reduce energy costs, and – yes – create more American jobs. To do so, the legislation would:
All year long, Democrats have promised more jobs for the American people. Where are the jobs? The trillion-dollar “stimulus” spending bill has not produced the jobs Democrats promised, the $3.6 trillion budget is loaded with more spending, taxing, and borrowing than ever before, and now Democrats are barreling ahead with a national energy tax that may represent the worst news of all for workers and their families. Isn’t it time for Democrats to back up their rhetoric on jobs with real action? Shouldn’t Democrats work with Republicans to clean up the environment, lower energy costs, and create more jobs here at home – without raising taxes? | ||
