| Boehner Statement on President’s Speech to American Medical Association Boehner: “The Effect of Even the Strongest Medical Liability Reforms Would be Negated by a Government Takeover of Health Care” |
| WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement on President Obama’s speech to the annual conference of the American Medical Association: “House Republicans want to work with President Obama on a plan to make health care more affordable and accessible for all Americans. We’re pleased the President has expressed rhetorical support for medical liability reform, but fact is the effect of even the strongest medical liability reforms would be negated by a government takeover of health care that raises taxes, rations care, and drives health care costs even higher. “Real medical liability reform must establish tough standards to reform the medical liability system, encourage the speedy resolution of claims, and deter junk lawsuits. If President Obama is serious about reducing the skyrocketing cost of health care, he’ll press his own party to include real medical liability reform as part of a reform package that puts patients and doctors in charge of their health care rather than putting government in charge. House Republicans are offering such a plan, and we hope to work with the President and our Democratic colleagues to enact it.” |
